SATHYANARAYANA C N DR

Dr C.N.Sathyanarayana obtained his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Mysore university and M.E. in Machine Design from Bangalore University. Further, obtained his Ph.D. from Viswesvaraya Technological University for the thesis titled “Studies on Damage Predication and Its Influence on Dynamic Instabilities of Composite Structures”. He started his professional career at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) as Scientific Assistant in Aerospace Department. After serving IISc for a short period, he joined Structures Division of CSIR- NAL as Scientist B and presently he is Chief Scientist, Dynamics and Adaptive Structures Group, Structural Technologies Division, CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore, India.

He is domain expert in Experimental Structural Dynamics, Vibration Qualification Tests, In-Flight Response Measurement, Finite Element Modelling and Analysis, Structural Health Monitoring and Flight Flutter Testing and provided R & D solutions to strategic and private industries. His capability in Experimental Structural Dynamics and In-Flight Response Measurement has been actually applied in upgradation programmes of new stores/weapons integration of many fighter aircraft (Jaguar, Mirage 2000 and Su-30 MKI) which are available in Indian Air Force fleet. He has executed several national and international projects and supported India’s major aircraft programmes such as SARAS, HANSA, LCA, etc. He built a very strong technical team within CSIR-NAL to execute Ground Vibration Tests on various aircraft, which is on-par with any international aerospace industries and competitive enough to bid in national and international market. He made significant contributions towards vibration qualification testing of aerospace, automotive and industrial components which led the industries of various sectors for better/optimum design of their systems with fewer failures. He carried out his research work parallel to his project management and contributed in the area of structural health monitoring. 

He has published several research papers in many national and international journals and numerous papers in national and international proceeding of many conferences. He has received many awards from CSIR-NAL for the contributions made towards project execution, research and development and a member in various professional society.
